About Me
About Me
Hi, I'm Sureka — the hands and heart behind Surekey Ceramics, based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
I've always been drawn to pottery, but it wasn't until June 2024 that I finally sat down at the wheel and discovered just how transformative it could be. For me, pottery is more than a craft — it's meditation. As someone living with depression and anxiety, the rhythm of the wheel and the feel of clay in my hands brings me a sense of calm and connection that I carry with me every day.
What started as private classes at two different studios quickly became a passion I couldn't ignore. I knew I wanted to do this full time — to grow, to create, and to share what I make with others.
My process is a labour of love. Twice a week I head to the pottery studio to throw on the wheel, and in between I do hand building at home, bringing those pieces back to the studio to finish. Every piece moves through my hands multiple times before it's ready for yours.
I specialize in functional pieces, with a love for bowls and an exciting new focus on mugs. Learning to throw cylinders has been my challenge and my joy — and after an unexpected surgery that kept me off the wheel for 8 weeks, coming back to make mugs again reminded me exactly why I do this. I also have a soft spot for cats, and you'll find that love woven into my work too. 🐱
Every piece I make is handcrafted with care, and when you buy from me, I want you to feel truly welcome — like you're bringing home a little piece of a local Toronto artist's heart.
Thank you for being here. It means everything.
